Hello to all the new to me readers!! Today I am looking at this fabulous coat pattern that I not only got a chance to test but also get to write a review about!! Am I a lucky girl or what?! Not only do we have an awesome line up of bloggers with pattern reviews but we also have a chance to win some fabulous prizes AND a discount code for ALL OF NOVEMBER! What! What?!
I created the Esplanade Coat and it was an absolute dream to put together. Simple clear instructions and an overall simple design, that has a great result. I cannot wait to create one for myself! The one I am featuring today, I made for my preteen daughter. She looooves for me to create things for her. Like demands I make them right. this minute. but puts them on, says, "nope" and tosses my beautiful creations in the corner, never to be seen again! Preteens!! But not this time! She has been impatiently waiting for some cold weather to be able to wear her new coat in. Preteen and I headed to Joann Fabrics and she designed the coat all on her own, with only one minor adjustment by her mother. (I made her swap out the $14.99 black fleece for on sale for $4.99 black fleece....though you'd have thought that I made her give away her puppy!) We used a lovely teal/black platitudes fabric for the outside and some super cute decorative buttons on the cuffs (which we an addition because I made a cutting error on the sleeve length) and the lapel. Well, lucky for the preteen, a cold snap has settled in here in central Texas (lows in the 30's and highs in the 40's) and she is going to be able to put it to good use!!

Isn't this coat a beauty?! Lucky for my daughter...it was only 95* when she got to model this coat for me for my tester photos....She was sooo pumped to put on her Uggs, leggings and a winter weight coat and then go OUTSIDE! The things she does for me!
As you can see in the picture above, I added a cuff. I had initially cut her a petite length sleeve but when we tried it on it was waaaaay to long, so I cut some off on both sides. Turns out we just didn't have her arm all the way into the sleeve properly. Whoopsie! So I added a contrasting cuff and button and loop. As you can see, we also did a fully contrasting lining. She wanted to be able to see the lining when the collar was down. I made her a size small, as that was what I was testing. The pattern recommends that you go up ONE FULL SIZE from what your measurements indicate, in order for your coat to fit over your winter clothing. PLEASE TAKE THIS ADVICE. Since we live in Texas, she won't ever be wearing heavy clothes under her coat, which is good because I did NOT size up and they would not fit. :) Listen to the designer, she knows what shes talking about! One more picture....and then we are on to the good stuff!
