Michael and his fellow kindergarteners (as well as kindergarteners across the country) have been learning about being community helpers. Last week they talked about police officers and Mike came home clad in a hand colored police hat and badge that he wore for two straight days, including back to school. Then came the same scenario with a fire hat and badge. Today was the culmination of this theme, complete with a community helpers parade through the school.
SOUND OFF! Community! SOUND OFF! Helpers! SOUND OFF! Community Helpers!
They chanted through the school building for about 15 minutes while the walked the halls and the stairs. It was completely adorable. Each child had to pick a community helper and dress up in costume today. I offered Mike up to be a fireman because we already had the costume but he refused. He wanted to be a crossing guard. Complete with a vest and stop sign. He was so proud as he marched around the school chanting. His class was definitely the loudest and the proudest with their song!!
Afterwards there was a lunch so the students and parents could hang out together and enjoy a delicious cook-out! Nick went to both Mike and Olivias lunch periods to hang out with them!
