Can we just take a minute and realize that when this school year ends it will be the year 2015??!!! I mean, WHAT?! I keep feeling like I have my years mixed up. It just doesn't seem possible. Weren't we just fretting about the world ending in 1999 and the threat of how Y2K was going to cause all of our electronic devices to implode? And here we are fourteen years later, and all those electronics that seamlessly rotated from 1,999 to 2,000 are practically dinosaurs. Time. Flew. PHEW!
Today marks the beginning of the kids' 2014-2015 school year. They are in 10th grade (what?! DOUBLE DIGITS), 6th grade (what?! AGAIN! MIDDLE SCHOOL?!), and 1st grade. J will also be doing preschool at home with me this year. I am really looking forward to seeing them all learn and grow!

Kristo begrudgingly smiled for this photo. I may or may not have threatened to show up at his dorm/college apartment on his first day, if he didn't smile for me while he was still at home. He was less than excited to get back to school. He prefers to stay in his man cave and play video games/watch live streams all day. His schedule looks like geometry, pre-AP english, PE, pre-AP chemistry, AP world history, theatre, health, and well, I cannot remember what else off hand. He has a pretty full schedule. When he picked his classes last year, I tried to convince him to take another easy class but he wasn't having it. Which makes me super proud!
The first day of middle school. I wish I could say that I remember but the only year I clearly remember starting is 8th grade....maybe because I had stitches in my forehead. HA! Lia was a ball of nerves and excitement this past few days, sometimes coming out as anger and usually ending up in tears. She got to ride the bus for the first time but wouldn't let me walk with her to the bus stop. I cannot wait for her to get off the bus this afternoon. I am especially praying that she has a friend to sit with on the bus and friends to sit with at lunch. I know she will fall right into the swing of this with her classes and locker and changing clothes for P.E. but those awkward situations when you need a buddy are the hardest through middle school. She picked theatre as her elective for this year, of course. I am so proud of her though, she has decided to take her lunch this year and she packed herself a super healthy lunch last night. Then this morning she got up and made herself eggs and a banana! She misjudged her time though and didn't get to finish her breakfast (and made mom yell!) Figuring out when to leave for the bus is a whole new world!
Can we just take a moment of silence for the cuteness here? Starting first grade! He is sooooo excited. He was ready and raring to go this morning. We met his teacher last week and she seems absolutely fantastic. I cannot wait to see what this year holds for Mike. He's just looking forward to playing football this weekend. I don't even know if he will be awake for it! He is going to be so tired, between football practice three nights a week and full-time school starting! Mike did want to point out that his shoes are his team colors. Everything we buy now has to be royal blue. That is team spirit. #gocolts
I totally bribed J with minecraft to even come outside for a photo. Just keepin' it real. He was NOT interested. All of the kids leaving had him stressing out majorly. He seems to have recovered now, as he and Reese are building forts out of a Sams Club sized supply of paper towels, minecraft style. We will be doing some concentrated homeschooling this year. Focusing on learning letters and numbers and writing and if it goes really well, sight words for kindergarten. He is very eager to learn, so I am sure we will get there. I am excited to see his end of the year sign, with his legibly written name on it! :)
Reese can't get left out! Plus she posed so cutely! Wearing her Frozen shoes, of course. She asked for them right away this morning, singing "let it go, let it go" as she danced around in them. The whole family is ready for her to learn more words to the song. HA! In my opinion though, she is just to young to even understand that those things all go together and to be able to sing the song! She is a lover of all thing musical! Maybe for Christmas she needs some musical instruments.
Anyhow, this mom is going to have another cup of coffee and try to shake off the first day nerves. Is it too early to go park in the "car-rider" pick up line at the elementary school? I mean, its 10:22am and school gets out at 2:45. That seems legit, right?
